Since Spring 2014, I have been following the inaugural East London Painting Prize, set up by The Legacy List and Bow Arts, with the support of the Goldhill Family and the Zabludowicz Collection. The prize, open to any painter living or working in East London, offers the chance of a solo show at Nunnery Gallery and £10,000 cash. Shortlisted artists are also included in a striking exhibition showcasing the exciting work of current East London painters. The judging panel included Varda Caivano, artist and painter, Maitreyi Maheshwari, Senior Curator at the Zabludowicz Collection, Sarah Elson, independent curator (Contemporary Art Society & Bow Arts Trustee), Matt Price, editor and curator, and Michael Goldhill, philanthropist
Documenting the prize from start to finish involved capturing the drop off of works from artists during May, the judging panel, installation of the shortlist show, the announcement of the winner Nathan Eastwood, a studio visit with Nathan preparing for his solo show, and the solo show in October.
The prize is open again for 2015, accepting submissions from anyone who considers themselves a painter, whether they are professionally trained or not. To find out more visit www.bowarts.org/elpp
